For one thing the topography and locale demand that the setup is quite unique - a cluster of eco-friendly dwellings on a smallholding, stretching from the main road to Cape Point up a steep mountain slope. The whole property is surrounded by nothing but uninterrupted open space with the ocean in front of you and fynbos mountainside all around you.
There is a well-known saying - going back generations - that you do not choose the Getaway but the Getaway chooses you.
Many of the guests who may have stumbled on the Getaway by accident go away feeling as though they have very deep and longstanding affinity with the place. You too will connect with the mountain that towers over you, the sea that surges at your feet and all the creatures above and beneath the waves that have made this beautiful part of the planet their home, who thrive here for now but are increasingly at risk.
They need a change of mindset and meaningful, support from conscious human beings. This all begins at home and for us home is Cape Point Mountain Getaway, just as it has become a much-loved destination for a great number of our guests.
The smallholding itself and the houses are steeped in history and in memory. When you visit you step into, and become part of this. You meet a cast of characters, living and dead, human and other-than-human, marine and terrestrial and of course our famous dogs.
In keeping with our ethos of biodiversity mindfulness and sustainability we have restored, preserved and extended a haven of peace and tranquillity that has minimal impact on the delicate and exquisite ecosystem that hosts us.
